A.B. Fitch started his lumber business in 1907, 20 miles north of Carrboro in Mebane, N.C. As The University of North Carolina prospered and the town grew, he opened a delivery station in Carrboro in 1923. Bernice Fitch, A.B.'s oldest son, was sent to manage the new office.

The town continued to grow, the building industry flourished and, in 1945, Miles, Bernice's brother, joined him in the business. That same year, fire destroyed the Mebane store and all operations were moved to Carrboro. Miles' son, Mac, and his daughter, Carol, joined the business after college. Since then, another generation has stepped up to carry on the tradition. Three of Mac's four sons, David, Miles and John, are now working to keep the family business in the forefront of the community's building industry.

Fitch Lumber & Hardware has continued to expand its goods and services to meet the needs of the town and its residents. Decades of construction experience and product knowledge have been passed down from generation to generation. Come by and discover all the products and services we offer to make your home more comfortable.
