About Us
Fitch Lumber’s story began back in 1907 when A.B. Fitch first opened a small lumber company in the town of Mebane, North Carolina. By 1923, as the University of North Carolina grew and the surrounding towns continued to take shape, A.B. Fitch’s lumber business expanded to a delivery station 20 miles south in the small town of Carrboro. A.B.’s eldest son Bernice Fitch joined the family business as the manager of this new location.
As the area continued to grow, the building industry flourished. In 1945, Bernice’s bother Miles joined him in the family business. That same year, a fire tragically destroyed the Mebane store. All operations were moved to the Carrboro location, where it remains to this day.
Staying in the family business, Miles's children Mac and Carol joined the Fitch Lumber team after college. Since then, another generation has stepped up to carry on the tradition. Three of Mac's four sons, David, Miles, and John, continue to uphold Fitch Lumber as a trusted pillar in the local community's building supply industry.
For over 100 years, Fitch Lumber & Hardware has continued to expand their products and services to meet the unique needs of the local community and residents. Decades of construction experience and product knowledge have been passed down from generation to generation. Stop in and discover all we offer to help your home fit your needs.
